VMware ‘continues to redefine’ virtualisation

Category: Virtualisation

VMware is continually enhancing and redefining the capabilities of virtualisation, it has been suggested.

Writing for InfoWorld, Paul Venezia noted the company’s new vSphere 4.1 release has meant "the best virtualisation solution available today just got better".

The industry expert stated VMware has never been an organisation to rest on its laurels and its new model has built on the strong base that it had already set in place.

It can support up to 3,000 virtual machines per cluster, plus 1,000 per each vCentre server.

Mr Venezia observed the offering has a number of add-ons that are aimed at simplifying VM management, while host power management and host lockdown have also been enhanced.

Another extra feature is "a new method of memory management that relies on compression over swap during low memory situations", he added.

Jeff Casale, VMware’s senior vice-president and general manager of business operations in the Americas region, recently claimed the firm will continue to lead the way with innovation in virtualisation.
