VMware is a company that is leading the way when it comes to embracing the bring your own device (BYOD) trend, which is currently revolutionising the way some firms work.

BYOD relies on staff using their personal laptops, smartphones and tablets to complete their tasks at work.

Forbes has told how desktop virtualisation specialist VMware is benefiting from the measure, as not only does it allow the company to save money but it also gives it a chance to gain firsthand experience of overcoming any of the potential problems caused by BYOD.

It is said that VMware is anticipating a huge take-up of BYOD in the years to come, so by investing in it so quickly it is putting itself in a good position to become a specialist in this area, in much the same way as it already is with cloud infrastructure and virtualisation.

Last week, the company announced the release of a cloud platform known as Serengeti, which it believes will help to "transform business".
