VMware virtualisation ‘ideal for SMEs’

Category: Virtualisation

Virtualisation solutions from VMware are helping many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) improve their infrastructure efficiency, it has been suggested.

Bogomil Balkansky, vice-president of product marketing for virtualisation and cloud platforms at the company, noted smaller businesses face similar challenges as bigger firms.

"But unlike large enterprises, [SMEs] have less legacy and organisational complexity, giving them the freedom to adopt emerging technologies more rapidly and quickly achieve significant benefits," the expert explained.

The organisation noted SMEs represent the fastest-growing segment of VMware’s customer base - with new solutions and services being brought out in the last two years aimed specifically at this group.

It added VMware offers "the most complete" virtualisation option for enterprises of all sizes and also brings the best virtual software capabilities to the widest range of customers.

VMware recently announced the release of its new vSphere 4.1 model, which can support up to 3,000 virtual machines per computer cluster.
