Businesses that integrate VMware virtualisation solutions into their workplace environment could benefit from significantly reducing their service time, it has been claimed.

Chief information officer (CIO) of gaming giant Aristocrat Angelo Grasso noted that one IT trend that has particularly received his approval this year is virtualisation, CBS Interactive reports.

He implemented VMware‘s Lab Manager to enable research and development engineers and employees to have system management space for self provision.

Mr Grasso said: "What VMware Lab Manager does is give us the ability to give a set of systems to our casino management systems people and they can create new virtualised environments."

This can be done without contacting the technology team, which helps to reduce service time from weeks to hours.

Other benefits highlighted by the CIO included inbuilt disaster recovery functions, energy savings and total cost of ownership.

A recent survey by VMware found that 67 per cent of small and medium-sized enterprises that use virtualisation replied that it drastically improved their data backup processes.
