Virtualisation solution provider VMware has stated that its platforms are ideal for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) hoping to boost their competitiveness.

The company noted its vSphere Essentials offering in particular is excellent for enabling such firms to merge and control their application workloads with increased efficiency and lower downtime.

According to the industry giant, the technology works best for businesses that have fewer than 20 physical servers, adding that vSphere is easy to update and configure.

Timothy Stephan, senior director for the organisation’s product marketing division, said the software allows SMEs "to do more with less".

"We’ve helped thousands of [SME] customers more effectively utilise their storage, network and computing resources to control costs and respond more quickly to business demand," he remarked.

Last month, writing for ITBusinessEdge, technology expert Paul Mah stated that smaller companies are aware of the benefits of virtualisation and are beginning to adopt such products in increasing numbers.
