Walmart has decided to implement software from SAP to help improve its financial reporting ability.
Writing for Computerworld UK, Anh Nguyen noted the company chose to push ahead with the rollout following a successful installation as Asda.
In its recent financial report, Walmart recorded: "The SAP implementation gave us the ability to improve our methodology for valuing inventory under the retail method of inventory accounting."
It added the firm has bettered its capacity to measure stock at more granular levels.
David Dixon, SAP programme manager at Asda, claimed Walmart wanted to replace their old accounting system with a more flexible and scalable one.
He observed the main reason behind the switch was to standardise a single approach and gain improved control across the planet.
In a recent article for ITNews, Brett Winterford suggested a firm wishing to monitor its finances should consider implementing an enterprise resource planning system as it can provide a top-down view of accounting operations.
