Software that facilitates workforce mobility will explode onto the IT landscape in 2010, one expert has suggested.
Citrix general manager Niall Gilmore noted that the proliferation of portable products will lead to a greater need for such platforms over the next 12 months, SiliconRepublic reports.
According to the news provider, January’s poor weather caused organisations across Europe substantial losses in terms of business, with severe flooding, frost and snow preventing many people from getting to work.
Mr Gilmore stated that by the end of this year, 1.4 billion individuals will have equipment that justifies remote access functions.
He remarked: "The whole concept of mobility will become infinitely more viable as small devices become much more connected through application and desktop virtualisation."
Nigel Stagg, managing director of BT Business, recently claimed that small and medium-sized enterprises could benefit the most from remote access software.
In an article for Freshbusinessthinking.com, he stated that technology of this kind boosts staff productivity and retention.
