Workforce mobility ‘becoming more prominent in IT’

2nd June

Category: Workforce Mobility

Workforce mobility in the IT sector is on the rise, but more needs to be done to ensure there is transparency about qualifications and certifications, it has been claimed.

According to research from the Innovation Value Institute (IVI) in Ireland, 59 per cent of IT professionals believe the number of people now working outside their native country has risen significantly.

In order to boost workforce mobility further still, however, 74 per cent of respondents suggested there needs to be a strategy in place to compare people's qualifications and certifications.

"Mobility for ICT professionals as well as the strengthening of the CIO [chief information officer] role in enterprises are two of the most important requirements for business today," said Professor Martin Curley, IVI founder, and director of Intel Labs Europe.

Alistair McKinnon, senior product manager of internet protocol at Virgin Media Business, recently said firms could have a strategy "in place to deal with unforeseen events" if they offered their staff the option of home working.
