Workforce mobility - which can be facilitated through products such as Citrix XenApp - should be higher on employers’ agendas, the government has announced.

In response to the Family Friendly Taskforce report, ministers are to promote flexible employment - including home working - across the public sector.

New Cabinet guidance will recommend that all jobs should be advertised as available for flexible or part-time scenarios to help businesses realise the advantages of employees with remote access.

Yvette Cooper, secretary of state for work and pensions, noted that performing duties from home can satisfy the parental responsibilities of workers.

She said: "Helping people into jobs, which also meet the needs of their family, is a really important way to tackle poverty."

Data recently compiled by consultancy firm ramsac revealed that small and medium-sized enterprises that did not have sufficient workforce mobility during the winter weather failed to maintain service levels.
