Business Continuity

Why you need it.

Our high availability business continuity solutions enable organisations to ensure critical IT systems and applications are available in the event of a device failure. This means that any one single point of failure is eliminated.

Our disaster recovery business continuity solutions enable organisations to ensure critical IT systems and applications are available in the event of a loss of site at the main data or operations centre.

Business continuity solutions allow staff to continue to do their jobs undisrupted by unplanned downtime, scheduled maintenance of IT systems or a total loss of site. Business continuity plans are often a pre-requisite for vertical industry compliance and governance, and can lower business continuity insurance policy costs.

Our expertise.

Our high availability solutions have been available to companies of all sizes across the UK for over 10 years, and disaster recovery complements our business continuity offering.

What you can expect.

High availability

Downtime is a headache for every company and solutions to combat it have generally been costly, hard to implement and difficult to manage. However, Codestone’s solutions are simple and cost-effective, and provide your business with peace of mind. Virtualised infrastructure provided by us allows you to:

  • Provide higher availability independent of hardware, operating system, and applications
  • Reduce planned maintenance downtime to nothing for common maintenance operations
  • Provide automatic restart of systems in the case of server failure

Planned downtime can account for up to 80% of our customers’ downtime, and generally includes hardware maintenance, server migration and firmware updates. To minimise the impact of this downtime, you would usually be forced to delay maintenance into difficult-to-schedule downtime windows. But with virtual infrastructure, you can:

  • Eliminate downtime for common maintenance operations
  • Eliminate planned maintenance windows
  • Perform maintenance at any time without disrupting users and services

Unplanned downtime can be minimised thanks to virtual infrastructure, as it builds important fault tolerance capabilities into its infrastructure. These capabilities are transparent to the operating system and applications running in virtual machines, can be easily configured and can be used by all virtual machines on a system, reducing the cost and complexity of providing higher availability.

Key fault-tolerance capabilities include:

  • Network interface teaming to provide tolerance of individual network card failures
  • Storage multi-pathing to tolerate storage path failures

Virtual machines are hardware-independent and can share physical resources, so failover can be implemented without requiring dedicated, identical standby hardware and the added complexity of maintaining identical configurations.

For server failures, our high availability solution provides an automated restart of virtual machines and can be easily configured for a server without depending on an operating system, application or physical hardware.

Disaster recovery

No one wants to think about the worst happening. But if it does, and you lose all of your valuable data, you want to be sure that recovery resources are in place to get you back up and running as soon as possible.

Virtualised infrastructure means that you don’t have to worry about whether you have the correct hardware configuration, patches and firmware. Our solution turns everything about a system, from hardware configuration, firmware, operating system install and application install, into data stored in several files on disk. The files that make up a virtual machine can be recovered to any hardware without requiring any changes because virtual machines are hardware-independent.

Having a recovery plan is essential, but so is ensuring that the plan is reliable. Outdated recovery plans are often unreliable because they are difficult to test, difficult to keep up to date, and depend on correct execution of complex, manual recovery processes. Virtualisation makes it easy to perform non-disruptive tests using existing resources and avoids time-consuming and costly complications during recovery.

Virtualised infrastructure provides rapid and reliable recovery without requiring identical hardware and enables server consolidation so that you can cut costs of both production and disaster recovery. It allows you to automate the disaster recovery process and ensure that it is executed rapidly and correctly, and makes it possible for you to easily and cost-effectively test your disaster recovery plan so that you can ensure that it is reliable.
